Description - The Lambda-Class Shuttle is one of the most often-used
passenger shuttles in existence. It is easy to recognize; its two ventral fins
rise up to meet the dorsal fin when landing, forming a distinctive "compact"
shape. The Lambda Shuttle is not intended to carry large numbers of troops;
instead, it is designed to shuttle VIPs or command crews to and from planets,
capital ships, etc. Although not very fast or manueverable, the Lambda Shuttle
is very well armed and can hold its own if attacked. It is typically armed with
three double blaster cannons and two double laser cannons, making it more than
equal to a starfighter in sheer firepower. One of the double blaster cannons
is rear-mounted, enabling the craft to fire upon enemy ships while attempting to
withdraw its (often important) passengers from combat. The Lambda Shuttle also
has strong deflector shields and a very strong hull.
Although the Lambda-Class Shuttle is designed to provide protection in combat
to its passengers, some Imperial Commanders and pirates use it as a front-line
assault ship. It has enough firepower to threaten capital ships, and the cargo
space is often converted to multiple concussion missile/proton torpedo launchers.
The Lambda Shuttle is rarely used in this capacity, however, except for emergencies
or special operations. The craft is extremely slow and unwieldy, more so than
the Rebel Y-wing, and it is a great deal more expensive than a standard starfighter.
Darth Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin, and Emperor Palpatine have all been known to use
Lambda-Class Shuttles as their personal shuttles. Ironically, it was in a
Lambda-Class Shuttle (the Tydirium) that Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and a group
of Rebel commandos sneaked through Imperial defenses and landed on Endor, ultimately
destroying the shield generator there and allowing the Death Star to be destroyed.
